Multidisciplinary Team

The diagnosis and optimal treatment of breast cancer requires the expertise of many specialty physicians, nurses, psychologists and other health care professionals. Northwest Surgical Specialists are proud to be founding members of the Seattle Breast Center Multidisciplinary Team at Northwest Hospital, founded in 1994. Patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer are presented to the team of 15-25 specialists each week. Screening mammography, specialized imaging work-up, biopsy results, physical examination and each patient's individual emotional, physical, spiritual and social considerations are reviewed. A group recommendation regarding optimal treatment is made and discussed with the patient.

A multidisciplinary approach facilitates optimal treatment and patient support resulting in saving lives, saving breasts and saving resources.
